Valve has announced its upcoming MOBA, DOTA 2, will be free to play when it launches.

The developer simultaneously announced in a press release an in-game DOTA Store, which will sell items created by both the staff at Valve and the player community in the Steam Workshop.

However, players will only be able to purchase items, not heroes. “We believe restricting player access to heroes could be destructive to game design, so it’s something we plan to avoid,” the team said on the official site.

The store opened last night and is already offering an “Early Access Bundle” for $39.99 that will net you in-game items as well as access to the beta.

Now that the game will be available for the low price of absolutely nothing, are you more likely to check out Valve’s newest title when it is expected to launch later this year?
