The role of James Gordon for Fox’s Gotham TV show has reportedly been offered to Sons of Anarchy actor Donal Logue.

UPDATE: Donal Logue has tweeted that this rumor is false. He also states that he’s heard they are looking for someone in their 20’s.

While it’s currently just a rumor, Donal Logue has reportedly been offered the role of Jim Gordon in Gotham. The actor has done quite a few TV shows and films, but is normally in a supporting role.

Danny Cannon recently signed on to direct and be the executive producer of the Batman related TV show Gotham. The show, which Fox won via a bidding war back in September, focuses on detective Jim Gordon, who was most recently portrayed by Gary Oldman in director Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight franchise.

Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, detective James Gordon first appeared in the very first Batman comic in 1939. His most famous portrayal is, of course, in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, where he had a fairly major role.

Donal Logue has an interesting look and he’s actually a solid actor, so we wouldn’t complain if he ended up taking on the role as reported by Latino Review. We’ll look forward to hearing more casting news as the show makes its way into production.

In a recent interview with Fox executive Kevin Reilly, he was asked how Gotham was going to be marketed, since it’s a Batman show without Batman. He reveals below that Batman is in the TV show, but will be a young boy.

Reilly explains, “Batman is in it, as young Bruce Wayne. This is an origin story. This is what I love about it. This is not like some of the things where you’ve bought a franchise, but then you have a bunch of characters no one’s ever heard of, or an offshoot that we make up. This is all of the classic Batman characters, with a young Bruce Wayne, with Detective Gordon before he’s Commissioner Gordon, with the Penguin, with the Riddler, and with the Joker.”

He continues, saying, “All of those characters are going to arc and become who they are. I’ve read the script. It’s really good. It’s going to be this operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality. And we will arc a young Bruce Wayne from a child into the final episode of the series, when he will put on the cape.”

When asked how the show begins, Reilly answered that they’re playing with the casting currently. Bruce Wayne is a “young boy,” but his guess would be that the character would be around 12.

Gotham will be the second DC comics based TV show, with Flash coming to CW. There hasn’t been a TV show based around any Batman characters in years, so it’s bound to be an original take on the Gordon character.
