The longtime voice of the opening credits of Saturday Night Live, Don Pardo, has died at the age of 96.

According to TVLine, Pardo retired from NBC in 2004, but continued to record introductions of cast members for SNL. In recent years Pardo would record the introductions from his home in Arizona.

Pardo also gave his voice for other game shows such as The Price is Right, Jeopardy and Jackpot.

In this clip from SNL, former cast member and the night’s host, Tina Fey introduces Pardo during the goodbye segment of the show as she and the cast celebrate Pardo’s 90th birthday. It’s clear he was admired by part of the production team at Saturday Night Live based on this video alone.

The New York Times is reporting that Lorne Michaels, the creator of SNL, will pay tribute to Don Pardon next season.

There’s no update on what exactly caused Pardo’s death. There’s also no update as to whom will replace the iconic voice in the opening credits when SNL returns in the fall.

Saturday Night Live will celebrate its record-breaking 40th season when it returns this fall. The show has already started to trim some edges with cast members over the summer but has not made any announcements about new cast members who may or may not be joining.

Hypable would like to extend our condolences to Pardo’s family and friends in this difficult time.
