Downey is Dolittle in the first trailer for the Dolittle movie, reviving the famous fictional doctor who talks to animals.

The first trailer for Dolittle, starring Robert Downey Jr. is here, and it’s easing the blow of losing Tony Stark just a little bit! The movie looks beautiful and magical, focusing on the majestic side of Dr. Dolittle’s amazing gift of talking to animals.

The story of Dr. Dolittle is no stranger to the big screen. The first Dr. Dolittle movie, starring Rex Harrison, was released in 1967. A movie series of the same name, initially starring Eddie Murphy, began in 1998. In 2006, the mantle passed to the doctor’s daughter, who was played by Kyla Pratt, in Dr. Dolittle 3. The story comes from a 1920s children’s book by Hugh Lofting.

These movies were great, but they were geared toward comedy, while the Robert Downey Jr.-led version seems to be edging more toward epic. It is set in Queen Victoria’s England, and picks up seven years after the doctor’s wife dies. In the movie, when the queen becomes ill, Dr. Dolittle ends up on an epic adventure to find a cure, which might end up curing his own pain, as well.

The movie also stars Harry Collett, Rami Malek, Octavia Spencer, Emma Thompson, Kumail Nanjiani, John Cena, Selena Gomez, and Ralph Fiennes, among many other stars. Most excitingly, Robert Downey Jr. will be reunited with Tom Holland, who is playing a dog named Jip! It is directed by Stephen Gaghan, and produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Susan Downey.
