In the new teaser for Doctor Who’s next episode, “The Rings of Akhaten,” viewers may be reminded of Rose and the Ninth Doctor.

Since this season is building up to the 50th anniversary in November, it does make you wonder if Steven Moffat was paying a deliberate homage to the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler in this episode.

In the second episode in the reboot era back in 2005, the Ninth Doctor takes Rose to see the end of the earth as the sun supernovas to destroy it. It’s Rose’s first proper trip with the Doctor, and the first time she sees a space-station. Rose is entranced by the stunning things she sees.

In the video below, in “The Rings of Akhaten,” the 11th Doctor takes Clara on her first proper journey with him to a space-station to see an alien sun.

The official synopsis from the BBC states:

Clara wants to see something awesome, so the Doctor whisks her off to the inhabited rings of the planet Akhaten, where the Festival of Offerings is in full swing. Clara meets the young Queen of Years as the pilgrims and natives ready for the ceremony. But something is stirring in the pyramid, and a sacrifice will be demanded.

Do you think there is a deliberate parallel between the two episodes?
