Early this morning, Matt Smith ran the Olympic torch through the streets of Wales. There was much controversy surrounding Matt Smith being chosen to run the Olympic torch rather than David Tennant.

Regardless of what side you are on, Smith seems genuinely honored and humbled to be chosen. He remarked to the BBC, “It’s a great privilege to be involved. I can’t quite believe people have actually turned up, I thought I would be just be carrying it around, waving to the ducks.”

Once Smith ran with the torch, the crowds seemed truly pleased, including a six-year-old who got up before 6:00 a.m. to see his hero, The Doctor.

According to the BBC, “A total of 8,000 people will carry the flame on its 8,000 mile, 70-day journey around the UK to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on 27 July.”
