Doctor Who is adding new characters this season, one of which is Danny Pink who is played by Samuel Anderson.

Samuel Anderson isn’t well known in the U.S. He’s been on quite a few popular U.K. shows such as Emmerdale, The Doctors, and Casualty. In fact, he was on Emmerdale, a U.K. soap opera, at the same time Jenna Coleman was.

According the the BBC, Danny Pink is a teacher at Coal Hill School alongside Clara. A new video gives a glimpse of his debut.

Showrunner Steven Moffatt had this to say about Danny Pink and the Coal Hill School story line back in February, “For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the first Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first season of Doctor Who!”

Now, could this rescue involving Coal Hill School have something to do with Daleks? The Daleks are definitely a major part of this Saturday’s episode.

Clara is clearly wearing the same outfit in her scene with Danny Pink as she is wearing in the clip below when she and the Doctor are on some sort of space craft inspecting a captured Dalek.

What’s also clear in the clip above and in the one below is that Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is easily more gruff and sarcastic than his predecessors in the reboot era. There’s no mistaking it, there’s not a warm and fuzzy vibe coming off of him.

The Doctor, in the clip below, even questions Clara about what he is like, “Am I a good man?” Clara has no answer, though the glimmer of what is quintessentially the Doctor is present. He cares enough to ask that question, and seems to care what the answer is as well. He’s bothered by it.
