Yesterday the official Doctor Who Tumblr held a fan appreciation meet up in San Diego. The best part was Matt Smith and a toddler Dalek.

A crowd of about 600 attended the event. BBC America supplied free food and entertainment. There were costume contests, scene reenactment contests, and a fan art and video celebration.

The surprise judges for the scene reenactment were Mark Gatiss and David Bradley. Two girls who were dressed as kiss-o-gram Amy and a TARDIS inspiration won. They performed the first scene the Doctor and adult Amy had together.

Mark Gatiss accidentally referred to the pair as the strip-o-gram couple and then realized his mistake right away as the crowd roared with laughter. David Bradley then quipped, “Well it was an obvious choice really. I always loved a woman in uniform.”

After the contests, the BBC America team played a video montage mash-up. When it was over, a confetti cannon went off and Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, and Steven Moffat entered the stage. They all thanked fans for their support.

Matt Smith then proceeded to tell the crowd that “You can all call Steven by his new nickname. He just got it on an interview we did. Call him Steven Fat.” Without missing a beat, Moffat replied, “You can exit the Christmas Special extra early if you like.”

Matt Smith then spoke to the crowd finally getting a good look at the people at the front of the stage, and the crowd began shouting “1 more year.” The highlight is him spotting a toddler Dalek and hilarity ensues.

At roughly 1:00pm Pacific Time today Doctor Who will be on the Hall H stage at Comic-Con. We will be live blogging the event.
