Throughout this week, Hypable is celebrating the sharp dialogue of Doctor Who by compiling a series of Top 10 favourite quotes lists. In our third list, we celebrate the best of companions from the revival era!

After being around for nearly 50 years, Doctor Who obviously has a very rich heritage of characters, creatures and costumes; but perhaps the unsung hero of the show’s impact on popular culture is the rich and witty dialogue that has graced our screens since 1963. The variety of settings and broad range of characters enable the show to deliver everything from stirring battle speeches to hilarious one-liners. Boasting some of the world’s best catchphrases, heartbreaking farewells, and uniquely-named planets, Doctor Who has had a surprisingly strong impact on modern literature for something that is primaily seen on “The Idiots’ Lantern.” In fact, the show has even seen the words “TARDIS” and “Dalek” enter the Oxford Dictionary!

With all that in mind, there was far too large a wealth of material for us to whittle down the best quotes of Who to just 10. So instead, Hypable’s Doctor Who writers Laura Byrne Cristiano and Harri Sargeant will be celebrating the quirky, moving, and hilarious words of the Doctor and company in a series of four lists. Over the coming days, we’ll select our 10 favourite quotes from the classic-era companions, classic-era Doctor, revival-era companions and revival-era Doctor – and then round the week off with YOUR favourites!

If you have any suggestions, drop them in the comments below or tweet us @WhoHype – you can even send an email to whohype@hypable.com if you have a lot to say! Your submissions can be from any character in the series (although not any spin-offs, they will get their own list in the future!) and can be of any length. Make sure you have your submissions in by Thursday, and check back on Friday to see if your suggestions made the cut!

After sharing our favorite quotes from both classic companions and The Doctor, we continue the week with our Top 10 favorite quotes from companions in the revival era!

Rose

“Parting of the Ways”

“But it was, it was a better life. I don’t mean all the traveling
and seeing aliens and spaceships and things. That don’t matter. The
Doctor showed me a better way of living your life. You don’t just give
up. You don’t just let things happen. You make a stand. You say ‘no.’
You have the guts to do what’s right when everyone else just runs
away!”

Martha

“Last of the Time Lords”

“He has saved your lives so many times and you never even knew
he was there. He never stops. He never stays. He never asks to be
thanked. But I’ve seen him, I know him… I love him… And I know
what he can do.”

Amy

“The Girl Who Waited”

“You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful — and then
you actually talk with them, and five minutes later they’re as dull as
a brick. But then there’s other people, and you meet them and you
think: ‘Not bad, they’re okay,’ and then you get to know them, and
their face sort of becomes them, like their personality’s written all
over it; and they just — and they turn into something so beautiful.
Rory is the most beautiful man I’ve ever met.”

River

“Forest of The Dead”

“Some days are special. Some days are so, so blessed. Some days,
nobody dies at all. Now and then, Every once in a very long while,
every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair and the Doctor
comes to call, everybody lives.”

Donna

“Partners In Crime”

“No. I mean it. If you ever see a little blue box, flying up
there in the sky, you shout for me, Gramps. Oh you just shout.”

Rory

“A Good Man Goes To War”

Rory: “I have a message and a question. A message from the Doctor and a question from me. WHERE. IS. MY. WIFE? Oh, don’t give me those blank looks. The twelfth Cyber Legion monitors this entire quadrant. You hear everything. So you tell me what I need to know. You tell me now and I’ll be on my way.

Cyberman: “What is the Doctor’s message?” {the fleet explodes behind Rory}
Rory: “Would you like me to repeat the question?”

Amy

“The Big Bang”

“When I was a kid I had an imaginary friend. The Raggedy Doctor. My Raggedy Doctor. But he wasn’t imaginary. He was real. I remember you. I remember! I brought the others back, I can bring you home too. Raggedy Man, I remember you and you are late for my wedding! I found you. I found you with words like you knew I would. That’s why you told me the story. The brand new ancient blue box. Oh clever. Very clever. Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. Something blue.”

River

“A Good Man Goes To War”

“This was exactly you. All this. All of it. You make them so afraid. When you began all those years ago, sailing off to see the Universe, did you ever think you’d become this? The man who can turn an army around at the mention of his name. ‘Doctor.’ The word for healer and wise man throughout the Universe. We get that word from you, you know. If you carry on the way you are, what might that word come to mean? To the people of the Gamma Forests, the word Doctor means ‘Mighty Warrior.’ How far you’ve come. And now they’ve taken a child. The child of your best friends. And they’re going to turn her into a weapon just to bring you down. And all this, my love, in fear of you.”

Rose

“The Army of Ghosts”

“Planet Earth. This is where I was born. And this is where I died. The first nineteen years of my life, nothing happened. Nothing at all, not ever. And then I met a man called the Doctor. A man who could change his face. And he took me away from home in his magical machine. He showed me the whole of time and space. I thought it would never end. … Well, that’s what I thought. But then came the Army of Ghosts. Then came Torchwood and the war. That’s when it all ended. This is the story of how I died.”

Rory

“Let’s Kill Hitler”

“Shut up, Hitler!”
