The BBC has revealed that as part of the 50th anniversary Doctor Who celebrations, a special episode will be airing in 3D! The TV is bigger on the inside!

Using the station’s own HD technology, the BBC will be able to broadcast the much-hyped anniversary special in 3D. Showrunner Stephen Moffat is very excited about the opportunity, saying, “It’s about time. Technology has finally caught up with Doctor Who and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore.”

To watch this episode, you need to have the BBC HD channel on your TV set. However, the episode will also be screened in 3D in select cinemas across the U.K., so keep an eye out for a showing near you!

Classic Who fans might remember that this isn’t the first time the series has been in 3D format. Twenty years ago, “Dimensions in Time” was a special 30th anniversary celebration episode broadcast as part of the annual Children in Need charity event.

This episode is set to air on November 23, exactly 50 years after the first ever episode of Doctor Who was broadcast on BBC. It is shaping up to be a huge national celebration; BBC Drama Controller Ben Stephenson has likened it to such events as The Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee.
