Fresh rumours suggest that the Fourth Doctor could be returning for the shows’ 50th Anniversary special.

We’ve said it a million times before, and we’ll say it again – take this rumour with a generous helping of salt. British tabloids are renowned for making up stories outright. Between reports of Benedict Cumberbatch playing The Master, the Ice Warriors returning, and the new companion having a returning reptilian love interest, they seem to have a 50/50 truth to lie ratio when it comes to Doctor Who.

The Daily Express reports that Baker has been approached by the BBC to reprise his fan-favourite role as the Fourth Doctor – whom he originally portrayed from 1974 to 1981. We heard last month from the man himself that the 78 year old actor was potentially game for a return, so if he has indeed been approached then it can be assumed that he will be appearing in next year’s celebrations.

Should the rumour bear fruit, we can expect a glamorous announcement from Moffat and company in the following days.

How do you feel about the prospect of a Tom Baker return?
