Whovians rejoice! Doctor Who now has an official air date for this August, so it’s time to clear your calendars.

Earlier this year it was announced that Doctor Who series 8 would air in August, and now we have learned from the BBC’s website that the official date is August 27, 2014 August 23, 2014! The premiere episode is titled “Deep Breath”.

UPDATE: A new teaser trailer just aired on BBC One and reveals that the air date is actually August 23, not August 27. We also get a great new look at the Doctor and Clara. Check it out!

It’s not an unusual date for series 8 to premiere around this time, since series 6 premiered in late August in 2011. It’ll be premiering right when the Doctor Who world tour gets finished, and since the cast and creators won’t be going to Comic-Con this year, Whovians are going to be extra eager to see Capaldi on screen for the first time.

In additional news, it looks like showrunner Steven Moffat plans on staying at least until the end of series 9, according to an interview with Doctor Who Magazine.

Moffat was asked how far in advanced he plans, to which he replied “Sitting here, right now, just before the [series eight] finale shooting block, I’ve figured out the cliffhanger to the penultimate episode of the next series,” he wrote. “And it’s a whopper. Ohh, I don’t think you’ll see this coming!”

Earlier this year the first teaser trailer was released, which is significantly more teaser than it is trailer, but it seems the TARDIS is exploding. Could it be it’s already getting a redesign from the current look? We’ll have to wait until August 27 to find out!
