Fans rejoice! Doctor Who series 8 will run as a cohesive whole, unlike this year’s series 7. However, we’ll have to wait a while before we see it.

According to Digital Spy, Steven Moffat has confirmed that series 8 will be airing in August of 2014. It looks like fans will have to wait a long while to see more of Peter Capaldi, who will be making his debut in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Additionally, Doctor Who series 8 won’t be split in half like series 7 was. Fans may remember that the seventh series started off with six episodes in 2012, which culminated in Amy and Rory’s departure from the show, and then the final 8 episodes of the series were focused on Clara as the companion and her mystery as the Impossible Girl.

We’re excited for more Peter Capaldi in one run, but sad that we have to wait so long until we’ll be able to see him properly be the Doctor. We’re hoping that between the 2013 Christmas Special and August 2014 the BBC will at least give us a couple of prequels like they’ve done in the past.

Earlier this week we were treated to a bunch of new stills from the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas Special, which showcased some odd enemies and interesting outfits.

And if you’re curious, we’ve also posted a bunch of spoilers from the Christmas Special, which seem to be at least partially accurate. However, Neil Gaiman, Mark Gatiss and Sue Vertue have all warned their followers and fans not to read The Sun, which posted them.

Are you excited for one long run of ‘Doctor Who’ series 8?

Or would you prefer that the series be split so you get more time to enjoy Doctor Who?

Don’t forget that the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas Special airs on BBC One at 7:30 pm GST, and on BBC America at 9:00 pm EST on Christmas day.
