After a mysterious image sent the fandom into speculation overdrive last week, a magazine article on Doctor Who series 7 opener “Asylum of the Daleks” has revealed the identity of a mystery redhead. Several teasers were also released!

In the latest issue of SFX, a new promo photo was released showing the face of the ginger-haired woman in question. And well, they certainly don’t look like Donna, Clara, Romana or an Amy clone. In fact, the image appears to depict Dalek agent Darla. Check it out below, courtesy of a scan from Doctor Who TV.

Notice the Davros-like cybernetic eye embedded in her forehead? The character (played by Anamaria Marinca) could prove crucial to the plot of “Asylum of the Daleks,” but we’ll have to wait until next Saturday (only eight days to go!) to find out just how significant a character she may prove to be.

Along with the image came an admission that the “every Dalek ever!” taglines and teasers were mainly used for publicity purposes, and that the large collection of The Doctor’s oldest adversaries isn’t necessarily the focus of the episode. “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” was never going to be a very popular title with fans, Steven Moffat confessed (although we here at Hypable love it!), but assured fans that the name was indicative of the episode’s light-hearted nature. On episode 4, “The Power of Three,” The Moff re-iterated that the story is set across one year, and is seen through the perspective of the Ponds and how “having a Mad Man with a Box turn up on your doorstep all the time” affects your life.

Finally, the Doctor Who head writer revealed that he had Amy and Rory’s exit planned from their inception – and that would be “noticeable” when fans see “The Angels Take Manhattan” (we’re guessing this refers to “The Eleventh Hour” throwbacks we’ve been teased about). He doesn’t have a mythology of sorts figured out for the stone villains though, as he feels that would “spoil” the popular monsters. But that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing them in Doctor Who again – there might be an episode in the future about someone being chased around a house by a single Angel.

How do you think Darla will affect The Doctor in “Asylum of the Daleks”?
