Doctor Who season 9, episode 8 airs tonight. The only question is how much damage will the Zygons do?

Last week, we learned that the Zygons had populated the earth in a sort of symbiotic refugee program. Of course, nothing went to plan, and humanity responded at its worst. In fairness, so did the Zygons. What is the fallout when two factions are hellbent on annihilation at all costs, and one of those factions is comprised of shapeshifters?

As the official synopsis points out, “Shapeshifting Zygons are everywhere in the UK, and there is no way of knowing who to trust. With UNIT neutralized, only the Doctor stands in their way. But how do you stop a war? And what can the Doctor do to save his friends?”

Clara is now part of the enemy force, or at least part of Clara is part of the enemy force. How will Clara rescue herself from the Zygons, or will the Doctor do it? For that matter, how many hybrid forms of Clara will we have this season? We’ve already experienced Dalek Clara. Now we have Zygon Clara. Can more be far behind?

Probably the biggest crisis of the episode will be locating the Osgood Box. What the box specifically contains is a mystery. According to a message jointly recorded by Human Osgood and Zygon Osgood, “The Osgood Box can end the ceasefire. The Osgood Box can start the war.” To this we all want to reply, “And how does that piece of information give us any information at all!”

The box itself seems to be roughly a two-foot cube. Of course, it’s painted in TARDIS blue, and it has all sort of galactic symbols on it, so there’s obviously a Doctor connection. What’s inside, given “bigger on the inside” possibilities, could be almost anything or anyone.

Doctor Who airs tonight on BBC America at 9:00 p.m.
