Doctor Who had everyone on edge after last week’s teaser brought the scare factor.

The official synopsis for “Listen” from the BBC reads: “When ghosts of past and future crowd into their lives, the Doctor and Clara are thrown into an adventure that takes them to the very end of the universe. What happens when the Doctor is alone? And what scares the grand old man of Time and Space? Written by Steven Moffat (Sherlock), and directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Silent Witness).”

It looks like Danny Pink, played by Samuel Anderson, is back in a big way this week. He was previously introduced in episode 2, “Into the Dalek.” Danny Pink is a teacher alongside Clara at Coal Hill School. From what we saw in the previous episode he is a history teacher who has a military background that involved active combat. There was also the start of a possible romantic relationship between him and Clara brewing.

What’s immediately noticeable is that Samuel Anderson is playing two characters this episode. Aside from playing Danny Pink, he is also playing Orson Pink. Undoubtedly the two characters are related, but exactly how they are related is not revealed. Are they father and son, or distantly connected in the future? Could Orson Pink even be the brother Journey Blue describes losing in the episode “Into the Dalek”? What’s even more fascinating, could Orson Pink be related to Clara if her relationship with Danny Pink develops into something serious?

In the video preview of the episode, it’s clear that writer and showrunner Steven Moffat has based much of the episode on a common childhood fear of “What’s under the bed?” It’s sure to bring the fright factor this week.

Doctor Who season 8, episode 4, “Listen” premieres Saturday, September 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET on BBC America.
