The shortlist for this years TV Choice Awards has now been announced and Doctor Who has fared favorably, receiving a handful of nominations.

Both Matt Smith and former Doctor David Tennant have recieved nominations for ‘Best Actor’ and will go head to head Colin Morgan (Merlin) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock).

Karen Gillan, who plays the Doctors companion, Amy, has been nominated alongside The Sarah Jane Adventures star Elisabeth Sladen, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Doctor Who itself has been nominated for ‘Best Family Drama’ and will go up against Merlin, Waterloo Road and Casualty.

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat and guest writer Mark Gatiss are nominated for their work in the BBC show Sherlock for ‘Best New Drama’. They will face competition from Single Father, which stars David Tennant and Downtown Abbey which stars Hugh Bonneville who made an appearance in Doctor Who earlier this season.

The winners are chosen by the public and you can cast your votes here. You have until midnight (BST) on Friday 8th July to vote and the winners will be revealed in an award ceremony on September 13th.
