When the premiere of Season 6 of Doctor Who hit our screens last month the overnight ratings in the UK were at the shows lowest since it’s revival, despite the episode breaking records in the US.

Now, new evidence has come to light which suggests that the episode, entitled The Impossible Astronaut, was the most recorded British TV Programme in history.

Newsline suggest that “An analysis of BARB data shows that record-breaking numbers of viewers recorded the programme. A total of 8.9 million viewers watched the programme, making it the sixth most viewed show of the week. Within that figure, 4.1 million viewers chose to time-shift the show by watching a recording of the show either later that day or in the following week.”

According to the figures Doctor Who is ahead of a number of popular TV Shows including The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing and Britain’s Got Talent.

Commenting on the data, Doctor Who’s Brand Manager, Edward Russell said, “We’ve known for some time that the way audiences are watching TV would change, so these figures are the proof. And the fact that Doctor Who is at the forefront of the new viewing habits makes us all very proud indeed!”
