Earlier this year, the creative team at Doctor Who made a movie-style poster for each of the fall episodes. They have now made a new one for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special.

In fact, the BBC has not only released a new poster featuring Matt Smith and the new companion, Jenna-Louise Coleman; but it has also released a new still of the menacing snowmen that the episode will feature. Click on the poster image to get a full-sized version.

In the above image, viewers can clearly see Matt Smith in the Victorian era, Scrooge-inspired attire. Jenna-Louise Coleman, though she appeared in “Asylum of the Daleks” as a modern era girl, is here pictured as a Victorian era woman. They appear to using a ladder to climb aboard the Tardis. Below them lie iconic, London landmarks such as Big Ben and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

In the Children in Need video that introduced the new trailer and an mini-webisode, Coleman and Smith shared some cheeky banter as to whether the characters are interconnected.

This marks the first time in the reboot era that the Doctor will face attack snowmen. In keeping with the holiday theme, he has previously faced attack Santas, attack Christmas trees, and attack angels for the Christmas Specials.

Edited: The BBC has just added the following information to go along with the images, “Christmas Eve 1892 and the falling snow is the stuff of fairy-tales. When the fairy-tale becomes a nightmare and a chilling menace threatens Earth, an unorthodox young governess, Clara, calls on the Doctor for help. But the Doctor is in mourning, reclusive and determined not to engage in the problems of the universe. As old friends return, will the Doctor really abandon humankind or will he fight to save the world – and Christmas – from the icy clutches of this mysterious menace.”

What do you think of the new poster? How does it rank against the posters released earlier this season?
