Tamm (who played the first incarnation of Romana) lost her battle with cancer recently, the BBC have confirmed.

She starred alongside Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor from 1978-1979, first appearing in “The Ribos Operation”. She played Romana in six television stories, and more recently reprised the role in several Big Finish audio plays.

Her agent of 22 years, Barry Langford, remembered Trimm’s “zest for life,” and described the sadness the actress felt when she heard of Elizabeth Sladen’s death last year. Co-star and definitive Doctor Tom Baker said in an official statement that Tamm was “a darling companion and wonderfully witty and kind. I’m so sorry to hear of her death.”

Below is a video compilation of some of the actress’ finest moments in her final Who television appearance “The Armageddon Factor”.

We here at Hypable wish Tamm’s family our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies. The whole fandom will surely miss her – one of the Doctor Who universe’s brightest stars has gone out.

R.I.P. Mary Tamm.
