A news series of images for this week’s Doctor Who episode have just been released. Get ready to be scared by the ghost story, “Hide.”

The official synopsis from the BBC reads:

Clara and the Doctor arrive at Caliburn House, a haunted mansion sat alone on a desolate moor. Within its walls, a ghost hunting Professor and a gifted psychic are searching for the Witch of the Well. Her apparition appears throughout the history of the building, but is she really a ghost? And what is chasing her?

The current title for the episode is “Hide.” It went through at least two working titles prior to this: “Hider in the House” and “Phantom of the Hex.” The less is more approach seems to be a good idea with the single word “Hide” being far more mysterious. The questions “Hide from what?” and “Hide from whom?” beg to be answered.

Hide is written by Neil Cross who penned an episode earlier this season, “The Rings of Akhaten.” Whereas “Akhaten” did have its scary moments – hard to see potential child sacrifice as lighthearted – overall it wasn’t what could be seen as a dark episode. Between blue space snow cones, choral singing, and barking aliens, things didn’t get too heavy. On the other hand, “Hide” seems to be closer to the heavier material that Cross is best known for as the showrunner of the BBC’s acclaimed drama Luther.

The Radio Times describes the episode as, “…a ghost story set in an abandoned mansion on a desolate moor, where a professor, Major Alec Palmer (Dougray Scott) is investigating a spectre known as the Witch of the Well. Jessica Raine plays his assistant Emma Grayling.”
