The BBC have today revealed the title and running time of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special – as well as a host of other celebrations taking place!

The special anniversary episode will be titled “The Day Of The Doctor.” Starring outgoing Doctor Matt Smith alongside David Tennant, Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper, John Hurt and a host of other unannounced actors, the episode has a running time of 75 minutes.

Also revealed by BBC News this morning are a slew of other celebratory programmes that will be broadcast in the United Kingdom. Alongside docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time (penned by Mark Gatiss and starring David Bradley as William Hartnell), BBC Two will also air a Culture Show special with lifelong fan Matthew Sweet exploring the cultural significance of the longest running sci-fi show. Thirdly, the channel will feature a lecture by Prof. Brian Cox, who made a cameo in series 7 episode “The Power of Three,” on the science of the show.

Meanwhile, BBC Three is said to be home to “a series of commissions” including Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide, which will be a useful tool for those looking to immerse themselves in all things Timelord before the festivities begin.

BBC Four will also air a newly restored version of the first ever story “An Unearthly Child” which has never been seen before, and BBC Radio 2 will transmit a 90 minute documentary entitled “Who Is The Doctor?” featuring new interviews and exclusive archive material.

No specific dates or times have been given for these additional programmes, nor has any details of international broadcasts been revealed at the time of writing.

“The Day Of The Doctor” will be simultaneously broadcast around the world on the 23rd of November.
