The BBC has released the first six photos from the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special titled The Day of the Doctor.

The gorgeous photos feature the reboot era Doctors played by Matt Smith and David Tennant. We also see John Hurt who will make his Doctor debut on the anniversary special. Hurt’s Doctor has been confirmed as being an “in-between” Doctor who fits in the timeline some place between Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor and Christopher Eccelston’s 9th Doctor. Whether or not he will officially be allowed to be called “Doctor” remains to be seen as his character was a character of war and vengeance, not one that was primarily looking for peaceful solutions. It has been widely speculated that Hurt’s Doctor is the catalyst of the Time War.

Each of the Doctors is seen at the TARDIS console panel. The panel is completely redesigned from Tennant’s reign when it had a far more colorful and steam-punk feel to it. In its current state, it is closer to the console seen in the latter part of the classic era Doctor Who episodes. If they all fly the TARDIS together, it will be the first time for a multi-Doctor flight since “Journey’s End” when the 10th Doctor and the 10 clone flew the TARDIS.

The stills also depict Jenna-Louise Coleman as Clara and Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart. Redgrave will be reprising her role as the daughter of “The Brig” and current head of U.N.I.T., whose headquarters is in the Tower of London. The headquarters was first revealed in series 7’s “The Power of Three” and has been confirmed as a location for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special.
