The 23rd of November is Doctor Who’s fiftieth anniversary. Most people are saving their party hats (fezzes and Stetsons, of course) for then, but why not start hyping up in the week leading towards the 23rd?

In this article I will be giving, hopefully, helpful ideas to get excited for the Day of the Doctor. I’ll be writing this as if I’m doing it day by day, but you can mix and match as you like.

Monday, 18 November

Monday, the start of the week, is usually a drag so why not spice up your day with some Doctor Who?
An easy thing to do on Monday is to just add ‘Whoisms’ in ordinary conversation, an ‘Allons-y!’ In stead of a ‘Come on!’. A ‘Fantastic!’or ‘Geronimo!’ or even a ‘Bowties are Cool!’ if the situation arises.

Now, if you happen to have spare time on the Sunday beforehand or even on the Monday itself, a brilliant idea is to bake something Who related to eat on Monday, TARDIS cupcakes or Jammie Dodgers are fun ideas but the possibilities are endless with a piping bag and icing!

Tuesday, 19 November

On Tuesday my idea is to dress as a Doctor or something Who-ish. Now, I’m not talking about a full-fledged cosplay, more of a closet cosplay, where your seemingly casual clothes are something that DW fans would recognize.

Some Doctors are easier than others, for example, Christopher Eccleston’s 9th Doctor is probably the easiest of the lot. All one needs is a dark colored v-neck with a leather jacket and jeans. Another easy one is Tentoo, the metacrisis Doctor in the Parallel Universe, all you would need is a maroon T-shirt with a navy blazer and jeans.

Wednesday, 20 November

This one seems a bit of a cop-out but seeing as it’s Wednesday, the middle of the week, no one wants to do something too enduring. So, I’ve decided to watch my favourite episode or two, “The Girl in the Fireplace” and “The Name of the Doctor,” in my case. Obviously, these may not be your choices, but it’s a great thing to have on in the background while you’re doing something else, but if you’ve got a bit more time on your hands then a full season marathon would be a great idea!

Note: if you’re having trouble finding episodes to watch you might want to refer to the list later on in the article.

Thursday, 21 November

Chances are if you’ve looked up Doctor Who fanart, fanfic or cosplay, you’ll have wanted to make/write one of your own, and now here’s your chance! You don’t have to make some elaborate costume for Saturday, you can easily make a fez with some cardboard and red fabric or paper or a bowtie with some red or blue ribbon. Now, if you’re not so skilled with a needle and thread, you can always draw or write something related to Doctor Who. If you want some great ideas and inspiration, Tumblr’s always a fantastic source- if something related to Who can be made, Tumblr’s made it.

Friday, 22 November

So we all know them, the virgins. The people who’ve never seen Who before. They’re the ones who confuse the Daleks with R2D2. Sure, they might have a good reason not to watch, but, then again, they might not.

So, today, the last day of my little five day Who project, introduce a friend to Who. Sit down with some Jammie Dodgers and watch an episode or two with the virgin. I’m now going to suggest some episodes from each of the ‘NewWho’ seasons.

Season 1:
“Rose,” “The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances”

Season 2:
“The Girl in the Fireplace”

Season 3:
“Blink”

Season 4:
“Partners in Crime,” “The Unicorn and the Wasp”

Season 5:
“The Eleventh Hour,” “Vincent and the Doctor”

Season 6:
“The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon,” “The Girl Who Waited”

Season 7:
“Asylum of the Daleks,” “The Name of the Doctor”

These are just my ideas but have fun choosing your own!
