As a relatively new fan of Doctor Who, the first season I ever watched was season 5. Don’t worry, I have gone back and thoroughly educated myself by watching the past seasons. I thought I would share some of my favorite moments from season 5, because those are the moments that began my personal journey with the Doctor through Time and Space.

Episode 1: The Eleventh Hour

The Final Atraxi Confrontation – Out of all the episodes, this has to be the hardest to pick my favorite moment, but I’m gonna let myself be obvious. Mind you, I had no idea who this ‘Doctor’ was when I first watched this episode, so when he threw on those suspenders and put on that bow tie, then basically defeated a group of harmful aliens with only his words, I was speechless. It was the moment he declared himself as the Doctor, the Last of the Time Lords and it was pretty awesome.

Episode 2: The Beast Below

The Glass of water – “Sorry, I’m checking all of the water in this area. There’s an escaped fish.” The first time you see the Doctor’s mind working in a weird way to make sense of something that nobody else notices except for him. Pure entertainment.

Episode 3: Victory of the Daleks

The Jammy Dodger – Another small moment that just added to my growing love of this show. The Doctor defended the Earth with a cookie. A freaking cookie. I mean, come on, if you are not impressed by that, you have a problem.

Episode 4: The Time of Angels

The Angel’s Image – “Whatever holds the image of an Angel is an Angel.” This entire sequence was nerve racking but completely entertaining. (Oh, and River Song! Do I have to say more?)

Episode 5: Flesh and Stone

Amy’s Blind Walk – By far the scariest moment of this two-part episode – maybe even the whole season. Was I the only one clutching my pillow feeling like if the Angels got Amy, they also got me too? Weeping Angels just freak me out, guys.

Episode 6: The Vampires of Venice

Aliens – The vampires ended up being alien fish trying to breed and create more alien fish. Is it necessary to explain further?

Episode 7: Amy’s Choice

RORY’S MULLET – joking but that is a daringly close second. Rory dies for the first time. At this point, we didn’t know Rory was going to end up dying a million times, which made it the hardest. Unless your heart and soul are black holes of nothingness, you like Rory. Watching his death, then seeing Amy’s heartbreaking reaction was hard to watch. It was brilliant and so sad at the same time.

Episode 8 & 9: The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood

I’m doing these two together because they were very eventful episodes that bled into each other. Both were very much centered around morality and how the human race’s morality can degrade with something we don’t understand. Thus, instead of picking one single moment, I’m going to cheat and pick all of the moments that displayed the humans dealing with extremely tough decisions. I’m writing this, I can change the rules, right? Oh, and R.I.P Rory’s existence.

Episode 10: Vincent and the Doctor

Vincent, the Doctor and Amy Pond gaze at the stars – I was very close to picking the moment where the Doctor brought Vincent to the future and showed him how cherished his work became, but then I thought of the trio watching the stars. That’s the moment we saw through Vincent’s eyes and it was beautiful.

Episode 11: The Lodger

“I’m not much for traveling.”
“I can tell from your sofa.”
“My sofa?”
“You’re starting to look like it.”
Umm, CRAIG.

Episode 12: The Pandorica Opens

The Speech – Yep, sorry, I had to. How can you NOT pick this moment as the best moment of the episode, or even the whole season? Again, he uses words – only words – to ward off armies upon armies of aliens who hate him, albeit for only 30 minutes, but still. It was incredible and gives me chills every time.

Episode 13: The Big Bang

The Raggedy Doctor – Okay, maybe another obvious choice, but I can’t help it. When Amy remembers who the Doctor was, she does what any Amy Pond would do: stops her Wedding reception and yells at her Raggedy Doctor to get there now, because he was already late. Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. And something blue.

There you have it! The moments that made me fall in love with Doctor Who! What were your favorite moments of season 5?
