Guy Ritchie’s upcoming King Arthur movie, Knights of the Round Table, has cast Djimon Hounsou in a “Merlin-esque” role.

Yep, there’s yet another King Arthur movie coming. Yep, it may be a six-part series. For better or worse, this is all Harry Potter’s fault.

Guy Ritchie is helming the project, which stars Charlie Hunnam as Arthur and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere. Jude Law has also been cast, as an unnamed “villain” (we’re betting on Mordred or Lancelot).

Variety now reports that Djimon Hounsou (Push, Guardians of the Galaxy) has joined the cast, most likely as Arthur’s magical friend and mentor, Merlin.

While his character’s name has not been announced to be Merlin, the role is described as, “a Merlin-esque figure who trains and mentors Arthur.”

If it’s not Merlin himself, it’s Gandalf.

The studio was originally courting Idris Elba for the iconic role, but he turned it down. Do you think Djimon Hounsou will be a good fit?

Knights of the Round Table opens July 22, 2016.

The screenplay was written by Joby Harold, whose only previous writing (and directing) credit is the 2007 movie Awake, which stars Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba.

Seeing as the plot and some character identities are being guarded so closely, we wonder if Ritchie is planning some epic twist to the saga – or if it’ll be yet another familiar story told with new actors. The King Arthur mythology is thousands of years old, after all, and it’s almost impossible to imagine how this movie can feel fresh – unless they go all steampunk or sci-fi on us (hey, there’s an idea).
