The size and power of Divergent’s fan base was proven with the first film’s success at the box office over the past few weeks. The film has made over $175 million worldwide, which led the studio to decide to split the Allegiant book into two films.
The second film Insurgent begins filming in Atlanta, Georgia (a hot bed for Hollywood productions) next month under the direction of Robert Schwentke. The movie was formally greenlit after Divergent’s successful opening weekend in the United States.
Meanwhile, Veronica Roth will publish a series of Four short stories this July.
