A second photo from the Divergent movie debuted today and features Shailene Woodley as Tris in her Abnegnation costume taking the Dauntless jump.

As readers of Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy know, Abnegnation is the faction that Tris is born into. She decides to transfer to Dauntless when given the opportunity and must prove herself worthy. Below we see Tris about to embark on one of the tests: Taking a jump off a building.

We love how you can see the Chicago skyline in the background. We also see Eric standing right behind her.

Director Neil Burger spoke to EW, who had the first look, about the scene. “In this photo she’s already jumped off the train and onto a seven story building as part of the initiation rite for the Dauntless. The next thing they have to do is jump from the building and down through a courtyard that has a deep, black hole. It’s terrifying.”

“We’d been nervously planning it because it is dangerous and there’s a lot of people on that roof,” Burger continued. “We had to pull it off safely and also pull it off cinematically, so you have this knot in your stomach as you watch this young woman decide to do this crazy thing. We had great weather that day and I think this scene really is emblematic of the movie: It shows the energy and the rawness of the way we’re telling the story.”

The first photo we saw from the Divergent movie debuted last month and depicted Tris in the knife throwing scene.

Hypable had the pleasure of speaking with Divergent author Veronica Roth recently. She told us about what Woodley brings to the character of Tris in her portrayal. “Shailene brings reality,” she said in our wide-ranging interview. “Tris is an impetus 16 year old. She makes – she has kind of a harsh personality with some vulnerability. And I think all of the shades of what Tris is, is what Shailene is able to do. Just in very small moments too, they’re pretty subtle. Even though she’s not a tiny blonde girl, she just IS this character. She seems like a real person who’s actually having these struggles which has been – I wasn’t that surprised because I saw her in The Descendants, but.. I just didn’t think anyone would be able to do it because Tris is so dear to me.”

Divergent opens in theaters March 21, 2014. Hypable will be visiting the set of the movie later this week to speak to the cast and crew of this highly-anticipated adaptation!

Thanks, EW.
