The three remaining Four short stories from Divergent author Veronica Roth will be released in a collection in July, the author announced today.

This is a shift from the previous plan which called for the Four short stories to be released several months apart from each other. One story, “The Transfer,” was released in September. “The Initiate” was scheduled to be released later this month.

The collection of Four short stories will now be released in July 2014, and the compilation will be titled Four: A Divergent Collection.

Roth says the reason for the delay is the length of the stories which have grown as she continues working on them. “The stories turned out much meatier and more substantial than I was originally anticipating when I started them,” she wrote on Tumblr Saturday morning. “There’s just so much going on—Tobias’s reunion with his mother, his growing disillusionment with the faction system, and some of his early moments with Tris, to name a few. So I just really, really need more time to get them right. I know it sucks, but I am sure that this extra time will result in better work and better stories for everyone to read.”

If you pre-ordered “The Initiate” – the second short story – you will now receive it in July. In addition, the price for all of the individual eBooks remain the same.

Roth published the final book in the Divergent trilogy titled Allegiant in October. A movie based on the first book will hit theaters in March 2014.
