The fourth and final film in the Divergent series will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger, who helmed last year’s Age of Adaline.

Ascendant (AKA “Allegiant, Part 2”) was set to be directed by Insurgent and Allegiant director Robert Schwentke until he decided to drop out of the fourth movie in January. THR reports he left because he wanted to spend more time with his family in Los Angeles, California after directing two Divergent movies in Atlanta, Georgia.

Unlike other book to film adaptations that split their final novel into two movies, filming for Ascendant did not occur concurrently with filming on Allegiant. Hence the opportunity for a change in directors.

Besides Age of Adaline, Lee Toland Krieger has also directed the rom-com Celeste & Jesse Forever starring Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg, Elijah Wood.

Meanwhile, Allegiant opens in theaters on March 18, 2016. Ascendant will open June 2017. The four-part series stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, and Miles Teller.

The first movie in the series was directed by Neil Burger.
