We’re one week away from the release of Divergent book 3 titled Allegiant, so let’s recap what we know about the novel by Veronica Roth.

We’ve rounded up several Allegiant book spoilers that can help make the wait for October 22 a little bit easier. Please note that even though the book leaked a couple weeks ago from a printer in Canada, all of the information below has been officially released.

‘Allegiant’ will be from the perspective of Tris and Four

Roth announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Allegiant will be from the perspective of both Tris and Four, making it the first book in the trilogy to take the spotlight off of Tris.

“I tried repeatedly to write Allegiant in just Tris’s voice, but it didn’t work,” the author wrote in July. “Her perspective, her way of seeing things, was a little too limited for the story I needed to tell. I wanted to do two things with it: A. let two characters experience different things, and B. let them react differently to the same things, so that I (and eventually, the reader) would get a better sense of the whole story, the whole picture.”

‘Allegiant’ quotes

A whopping thirteen quotes – some lengthier than others – have been released from Allegiant over the past few weeks in places like a World of Divergent eBook. Many of these quotes were unattributed, so in some cases it’s difficult to tell if it’s from the mind of Tris or Four:

1) “Pride is what killed Al, and it is the flaw in every Dauntless heart. It is in mine.”

2) “We don’t know what’s happened out there since they put us in here, or how many generations have lived and died since they did.We could be the last people left.” (Tris)

3) “Sometimes I still forget to look for the gentler parts of her. For so long all I saw was the strength, standing out like the wiry muscles in her arms or the black ink marking her collarbone with flight.” (Four)

4) “It’s not often real that you encounter the real person behind a good-natured mask, the darkest part of someone. It’s not comfortable what you do.” (Tris)

5) “But now I know how large the world is… Well. I suppose I have grown too large out of my faction. As a consequence.”

6) “I take a deep breath. I’m not sure where that swell of desperation came from, but now that I’ve acknowledged it, it’s impossible to ignore, like a living thing has awakened from a long sleep inside me. It writhes in my stomach and throat. I need to leave. I need the truth.”

7) “For me, it feels like driving from truth into a lie, from adulthood to childhood. I watch the land of pavement and glass and metal turn into an empty field. The snow is falling softly now, and I can faintly see the city’s skyline up ahead, the buildings just a shade darker than the clouds.”

8) “I have never had parents who set good examples, parents whose expectations were worth living up to, but she did. I can see them within her, the courage and the beauty they pressed into her like a handprint.”

9) “Though I know that he had something to do with the attack simulation, and with all those deaths, I find it difficult to pair those actions with the man I see in front of me. I wonder if this is how it is with all evil men, that to someone, they look just like good men, talk like good men, are just as likable as good men.”

10) “It’s stupid to miss a thing when there are so many people to miss instead, but I miss this train already, and all the others that carried me through the city, my city, after I was brave enough to ride them. I brush my fingers over the car wall, just once, and then jump.”

11) “I open the door to the fear landscape room and flip open the small black box that was in my back pocket to see the syringes inside. This is the box I have always used, padded around the needles; it is a sign of something sick inside me, or something brave.”

12) “His fingers slide into my hair, and I hold on to his arms to stay steady as we press together like two blades at a stalemate. He is stronger than anyone I know, and warmer than anyone else realizes; he is a secret that I have kept, and will keep for the rest of my life.”

13) “’I’m going to stop a revolution,’ I say. I turn right, and Peter follows me.”

‘Allegiant’s’ synopsis

Below is the official synopsis which hints that Tris will be heading outside of the confines of the factions she’s been in during Divergent and Insurgent. The cover of the book has a photo of Chicago’s airport at the bottom, which also suggests she’ll be doing some traveling.

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.
