Disney Junior is gearing up to send its hit animated series, Elena of Avalor off in style.
Princess Elena’s journey to be queen will soon be coming to an end, but before the hit Disney Junior series wraps up for good, fans far and wide will get to see the moment Elena finally takes her rightful place on the throne of Avalor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney Junior has officially announced that Elena of Avalor will wrap up with a primetime finale coronation special.
Titled Elena of Avalor: Coronation Day, the finale special will find the titular heroine experience a few bumps in the road on the big day. When Esteban unleashes his spirit misfits (The Four Shades of Awesome) on the kingdom, Elena will find herself with no choice but to venture down into the Spirt world to prove she’s got the courage to takes to safe her friends, her family, and her beloved kingdom.
In a statement announcing the big finale special, Elena of Avalor creator and executive producer Craig Gerber spoke of what a privilege it’s been to bring Disney’s first Latinx princess to life.
“We created the character of Elena with the hopes that she would be a role model, not just for young Latina girls watching, but for all children to be able to see what a true leader looks like,” said Gerber. “From the beginning, Elena’s story arc has been that she would one day become queen.. With the series finale, the creative team has been able to bring Elena’s story to the thrilling conclusion that we always envisioned. I can’t wait for viewers to see the final chapter in Elena’s epic adventure.”
In addition to returning cast members, the Elena of Avalor finale special also boasts an impressive list of guest stars, who all have signed on to lend their voices to characters for the special.
Specifically, Jenny Slate, Mark Hamill, Fred Armisen and Andy Garcia will lend their voices to Esteban’s team of spirit misfits, The Four Shades of Awesome. Additionally, Patrick Warburton will voice the ruler of the dark side of the Spirit World, Grand Macaw.
New episodes of Elena of Avalor are set to air every Sunday at 5 p.m. leading up to the series’ big finale.
Elena of Avalor: Coronation Day is set to air Sunday, August 23 on Disney Junior and DisneyNOW.
