Disney’s Daredevil Netflix series will be written by Drew Goddard, writer-producer of Alias, Lost, and director of The Cabin in the Woods.

Reports are in that Goddard is currently in negotiations to pen Marvel/Disney’s Daredevil Netflix series, which will be one of four projects recently announced by Disney.

TheWrap reports that a representative for Drew Goddard “had no comment, while representatives for Netflix and Marvel did not respond to requests.”

Drew Goddard came to fame by serving as a writer and producer of two incredibly popular TV shows, Alias and Lost. He also wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which means he has ties to someone very important to Marvel.

Who would that be? Joss Whedon, the director of Buffy, who is currently working on Marvel’s massively anticipated sequel, The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Even more interesting is that he recently penned Brad Pitt’s highly successful film World War Z, and directed The Cabin in the Woods which Joss Whedon also co-wrote.

Why is his relationship with Whedon important? Well, Whedon serves as essentially the godfather for all of Marvel’s current films and being in his good graces is exactly what Disney needs to succeed with their new trip into Netflix shows.

While Daredevil was critically panned when Ben Affleck portrayed the character back in 2003, we imagine a Netflix series will be wildly different than a film about the Marvel character.

Apparently Goddard is a “self-professed Daredevil buff,” and is more than excited to be writing for Disney’s first Netflix television series. The series will start production sometime next year and we’ll be excited to see how successful Marvel’s transition into Netflix series goes.
