The prince of thieves could soon be heading to a whole new world as the classic animated film is adapted for the Broadway stage.

The show is currently on at the Tuacahn theater after a brief debut at the Muny last month, but up until this point there had been no indication it would make it to the big stage. Now though (according to Stitch Kingdom), Alan Menknen – the Oscar-winning musical producer of many Disney films – has confirmed that the production is currently being tweaked for a Broadway run.

The show joins predecessors Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Tarzan and The Little Mermaid as one of many children’s classics to be performed on the famous New York street. The new production will feature many songs that were cut from the 1992 film due to story changes, including “Proud of Your Boy,” “Call Me A Princess,” “High Adventure,” and “Babkak, Omar, Aladdin, Kassim.” The show is also said to incorporate 3D glasses for the Cave of Wonders scene.
