Kingdom Hearts 3 is on its way, but which Disney worlds would we like to see in it?

One of the most exciting things about the prospect of a new Kingdom Hearts game is speculating on the new worlds that Disney can bring to the table. With the third entry in the series, Square Enix have a wealth of worlds that they can send Sora, Donald, and Goofy to. Since Kingdom Hearts 2 was released, Disney has bought the rights to the Marvel catalog and the Star Wars universe, meaning the series’s next installment has the potential to be the most exciting entry yet.

Manhattan, New York

Optional Party Member: Various
Keyblade: Iron-Blade
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the hottest property in entertainment right now, and with Kingdom Hearts co-creator Disney now owning the rights to The Avengers, dipping into the world of superheros would be a potentially lucrative way to bring a whole new generation of gamers into the Kingdom Hearts hardcore. Plus, there’s plenty of grown-ups who would get a massive kick out of whizzing around the skies of Manhattan with their favorite Avenger.

Of course, a world in which massive characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man and The X-Men all inhabit makes for a pretty crowded list of potential party members. Which is why we think they should go with the plot of the first Avengers film, and after defeating Loki and his army, leave you free to whizz around New York with as many different superheroes as you please — wiping out any Heartless you encounter in a free-roam mode.

And, let’s be honest. The Avengers is a suitable Kingdom Hearts scenario just to see all of Marvel’s finest mistake Donald for Howard the Duck.

Highlands, Scotland

Optional Party Member: Meredith
Keyblade: Bow and Arrow Blade
Brave wasn’t the most popular of Pixar’s movies, but its unique setting would provide a very atmospheric backdrop for Sora, Donald and Goofy to adventure in. We’ve not really seen a similar setting in the Kingdom Hearts series yet, and elements like archery and magic could make for a very interesting world. Meredith would of course be the optional party member for the world, and we’d undoubtedly see Sora in bear form.

DS-1, Despayre

Optional Party Member: Princess Leia/Luke Skywalker
Keyblade: Lightblade
Star Wars will undoubtedly come to the Kingdom Hearts franchise sooner rather than later, and why not kick-start that by introducing it in the hotly anticipated third entry? Sora and the gang could join Leia on the newly constructed Death Star and try to assist her with her super secret rebel business. After she’s caught, we could take part in a few stealth levels when the player sneaks around in Storm Trooper gear before joining Luke and Han in their breakout mission.

At some point we’d be rewarded with a lightsaber keyblade (can you imagine?!) and the world would finish up with a Gummi Ship battle to help the rebels bring down the Death Star.

Game Central Station, Litwak’s Arcade

Optional Party Member: Wreck-It-Ralph
Keyblad:e 8-Bit Blade
Timeless River made a nice break from the adventuring of Kingdom Hearts 2 by giving us a world of mini-games. That concept could be taken one step further by taking us to Litwak’s Arcade where we’d be presented with a treasure trove of nostalgic mini-games. After chasing Ralph through through Game Central Station and completing puzzles, platformers, and challenges, we’d realize that the only reason Wreck-It-Ralph was smashing up the apartment complex is because he knew the world’s keyhole was hidden inside.

Return visits could open up the door for hidden boss fights like Sephiroth or Hercules‘s titans.

Arendelle, Norway

Optional Party Member: Elsa
Keyblade: Ice Blade
Frozen‘s inclusion in Kingdom Hearts 3 is pretty much inevitable, and in fairness, the world of Arendelle would make for a brilliant level. There’s a whole cast of characters that would make this a fun romp, and the infamous (and now infuriating) musical numbers could provide a reprise of the singing sections from Atlantica. Joining Elsa in her ice sanctuary would be a great opportunity to show off the graphical capabilities of next-gen systems (all the light bouncing off the ice), and the trolls could provide a fun little mini-game or puzzle.

The giant snow monster would make for a challenging final boss, before joining a reunited Anna and Elsa for a jubilant rendition of “Let It Go.”

Lucky Cat Cafe, San Fransokyo

Optional Party Member: Baymax
Keyblade: Microblade
We’ll be honest, the only reason this one is on the list is because Baymax could potentially be the best optional party member in Kingdom Hearts history. The way he’d declare “Oh no” every time some heartless appeared, the way he could switch to his menacing battle mode to take on said heartless, and all the other general hi-jinks the lovable robot could provide are enough to warrant San Fransokyo’s place on this list by themselves.

But the potential to build upon superhero gameplay mechanics introduced in the Avengers level as well as a free-roam around the wonderfully quirky mash-up city would add so much fun to any game.
