Today’s Disney earnings call was short on big reveals, but CEO Bob Iger did drop one interesting tidbit: Big plans for Star Wars in Disney Parks will be announced in 2015.
The news surfaced when Iger was discussing their popular franchises and how they plan to use them in their various theme parks. Hypable listened in on the call to hear what, if anything, Disney would reveal today.
Iger specifically said that they will add a “far greater Star Wars presence” and later reiterated that these plans are “significant.”
The CEO was also asked if they plan to purchase rights to other properties like they did with Avatar, and similarly what Universal did with Harry Potter. Iger said that they have no plans because they have enough properties to use, citing their success with Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure.
Several Disney Parks including the two United States resorts currently feature a Star Tours attraction. They were both revamped with new features in 2011. The rumor mill believes that Disney is considering adding Star Wars attractions in Disneyland and Disney World’s Tomorrowland areas – a natural place to put a galaxy far, far away.
Meanwhile, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will open Avatar Land sometime in 2017.

Elsewhere on the call Iger was asked about Harrison Ford’s ankle injury on the Star Wars: Episode VII set. He didn’t comment on what happened, but he did confirm that the film remains on track for a December 18, 2015 release.
