Iconic ’90s musical Sister Act is getting the remake treatment at Disney! Surprised? At this point, you really shouldn’t be.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Disney is working on a remake — or possibly a sequel — of Whoopi Goldberg’s Sister Act.

The 1992 movie spawned not only a sequel, but also a Tony-winning Broadway musical. Looks like Disney is now hoping to squeeze a few more $$$ out of the singing sisters.

Disney has hired two great female comedy writers, Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, to pen the newest Sister Act installment. The prolific pair have produced such smash hits as Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate About You.

No news on whether Whoopi Goldberg — currently on her eighth year on The View — will return for what is either a remake of the original, or a canon-compliant sequel ala Independence Day and Blade Runner.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but we’ll update you as we learn more about this surprising addition to the Disney remake family.

In the 1992 movie, Goldberg played Deloris, a San Francisco lounge singer who went undercover at a convent to escape a mob boss. The sequel saw Deloris back in the habit, as it were, to become a music teacher.

The movie also starred Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Mary Wickes and Robert Miranda.

Disney’s new Sister Act will be produced by Alli Shearmur, who also worked on the recent, widely successful live-action Cinderella.

Hit it, Whoopi.
