Looks like Disney’s Robin Hood could soon be following in the footsteps of The Lion King and Lady and the Tramp.

According to Deadline, Walt Disney Studios is currently in the process of developing a live-action/CG hybrid adaptation of their animated classic, Robin Hood.

Currently, it’s looking like the live-action/CG hybrid remake would be landing over at Disney+. Disney’s official streaming site would make for the perfect home for the forthcoming live-action hybrid.

Especially given that upon launching at the end of last year, Disney+ served as a vehicle by which to release the studio’s live-action Lady and the Tramp (which bypassed a theatrical release entirely in favor of heading straight to streaming).

And speaking of the live-action Lady and the Tramp, it’s also being reported that Kari Grandlund (who wrote the script for the aforementioned live-action adaptation) is already on board to pen the script for the studio’s Robin Hood remake.

Also involved behind the camera is Carlos Lopez Estrada. The Blindspotting director has reportedly been tapped to direct.

In addition, Justin Springer (who served as a producer on the live-action Dumbo) is also on board to serve as a producer on the project.

Disney has been fluffing it’s crew with vets who’ve worked on previous live-action remakes for the past few years, so it comes as no surprise that they’re looking to do the same when assembling the team for Robin Hood as well.

A live-action remake of Disney’s 1976 animated classic about the heroic outlaw who robs the rich to feed the poor, isn’t necessarily something any of us saw coming. At the same time, given how quick Disney is to green light the live-action adaptations these days, we’re also not all that surprised.

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the studio’s newest live-action title to premiere via Disney+, but in the mean time, fans of the remakes won’t go hungry for content.

There’s still Disney’s live-action Mulan to look forward to, and of course the studio’s live-action Little Mermaid (which is currently in production despite the fact that they’ve hit pause on filming due to the current coronavirus pandemic).
