Bad news, Star Wars fans — it looks like production on the Obi-Wan Kenobi show has hit a bit of a snag.

Those who were looking forward to the highly-anticipated Disney+ project will be waiting a while longer because Collider is reporting that the studio has chosen to put their Obi-Wan Kenobi series on hold for the time being due to story issues.

There’s also currently no word on when production might pick back up, but it’s being reported that everyone involved with the project has been sent home, with no date set yet for when they’re expected to report back to set.

So what’s the cause of the indefinite delay? Apparently, a source close to the project revealed that the studio felt as though the scripts just weren’t cutting it.

Meanwhile, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a source close to the project is saying that the concern with the scripts comes down to the fact that the storyline was a bit too similar to that of The Mandalorian.

Specifically, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was reportedly set to feature the Jedi Master keeping a watchful eye on a young Luke and Leia — similar to how The Mandalorian took Baby Yoda under his wing.

Instead of treading similar ground, the studio chose to scrap the two scripts that were completed in favor of going back to the drawing board and searching for new writers.

In a bit of good news, however, it sounds as though the production delay won’t affect Ewan McGregor’s involvement with the project.

McGregor, who was announced to be officially on board to reprise his role as the titular Jedi back at D23 2019, is still attached to star in the series. In addition, director Deborah Chow is also still signed on to serve as director.

As Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series is now on hold indefinitely, there’s no way to know when we can expect it to premiere. Guess we’ll just have to hope Disney and Lucasfilm shed some more light on the matter with fans soon!
