Disney celebrates 20 years on Broadway with a one-hour special airing on ABC this December featuring performances and behind the scenes looks at your favorite productions.

Disney has a long history of bringing their classic tales to the great white way. To celebrate Disney Theatrical Production’s 20 year anniversary on Broadway, ABC will air a special on December 14 hosted by Modern Family and Broadway star, Jesse Tyler Furguson. Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years, will take viewers on a journey through the creation of Disney’s eight Broadway musicals: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, AIDA, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Newsies, and Aladdin.

The event is described as follows: “The special features new commentary and revealing anecdotes by the stars and theatre professionals about the creation and long runs of these beloved titles. For the first time, viewers have unprecedented access to the fast pace and high stakes world of Broadway. Cameras are backstage during an actual performance of Aladdin during the show stopping production number, “Friend Like Me.” Composer Lebo M leads the ensemble of The Lion King in a special rehearsal, celebrating the show’s South African roots and themes that are the very heart of this landmark musical. The cast of the North American tour of Newsies takes viewers on the road as the tour prepares for its official opening night in Philadelphia, as they “carry the banner” of this unlikely Disney smash hit musical.”

Disney has enjoyed a great deal of success both on Broadway and in touring productions alike. From James Monroe’s recent Tony win for his portrayal of the Genie in Aladdin to the longest running Disney production, The Lion King, Disney continues to reinvent the classics and bring new and exciting numbers to fans across the world. Their latest production, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, is currently wrapping up workshop performances at the La Jolla Playhouse in California.

Fans of the Broadway reincarnations can expect to hear from some famous voices as well. Performances from Sir Elton John, Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen (Nashville), Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins) and Adam Jacobs (Aladdin) are all slated for the one-hour special.

If that is not enough Disney magic for you, be sure to stick around after the special for Once Upon a Time‘s winter finale airing on ABC at 8:00 p.m. ET.
