Disney’s new Movies Anywhere app aims to collect a library of digital movies, for your purchasing convenience.

Last night, Disney launched their re-branded Disney Movies Anywhere as simply Movies Anywhere, an app and website that expands its existing library to include not only Disney (inc. Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm) films but titles from Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. in one shared library.

The movies aren’t free, of course: this app simply provides a place through which you can purchase the titles, through the retailers digital retailers Amazon Video, Google Play, iTunes and Vudu. It is similar to Ultraviolet, but will allegedly work more seamlessly and has the capacity of bringing together more studios and online retailers.

Movies Anywhere GM Karin Gilford says, as quoted by Variety:

“It’s simplicity. It’s ease of use. It’s bringing it together all in one place. This is going to enable movie fans to sync their movie collection from the five studios across retailers, devices, platforms.”

Gilford further promises that Movies Anywhere is going to be “amazing,” making it easier for you to build up and manage your digital movie collection.

Downloading the Movies Anywhere app will allow you to link to your digital retailer of choice; you will then be able to purchase and stream/download any title, which will be stored in your library for future use.

It is also worth noting that, in an effort to entice people to join the service, you can get up to five free movies simply by signing up: Ghostbusters and Ice Age will be made available once you link to a digital retailer, and adding a second retailer unlocks Big Hero 6, Jason Bourne and The Lego Movie.

Movies Anywhere is only available for signup in the United States.
