Disney fans will have to wait a bit longer before they can take a ride on Dwayne Johnson’s Jungle Cruise.

Actor Dwayne Johnson took to Twitter on Friday (October 19) morning to let fans know that Disney’s upcoming live-action adventure, Jungle Cruise, has a new release date.

“It’s official — July 24, 2020,” tweeted Johnson. “Ladies and Gentleman and children of all ages. My partner in crime, Emily Blunt and I, lovingly invite you to join us for the adventure of a lifetime. All aboard [Disney Studios’] Jungle Cruise.”

The new July 2020 release date sets the film’s premiere back about a year. Initially, Disney was gearing up to release the action film next year on October 11, 2019.

Currently, it’s anyone’s guess as to why the studio decided to push the film back. Johnson didn’t offer up any more details in his post, and Disney hasn’t revealed more details with regards to the decision to hold off on releasing it.

Other actors joining Blunt and Johnson on the upcoming Disney flick include Veronica Falcon, Dani Rovira, Andy Nyman, Jesse Plemons, and Jack Whitehall.

Pelmons and Whitehall have garnered quite a bit of buzz for their roles in the upcoming movie where Plemons in particular will reportedly play the story’s big villain.

Meanwhile, Whitehall is set to play an unnamed character who will reportedly be Disney’s first openly gay character in a movie. The move sparked a bit of controversy, with many disappointed that Disney had decided to cast a straight man in a role meant to be a huge step for diversity.

Other than a few casting details, the cast and crew are keeping tight lipped with regards to what the plot of the film will entail. If it’s anything like other Disney rides that have been turned into movies, though, we’re sure there’ll be tons of nods to the original Disneyland ride peppered throughout the story.

Disney’s Jungle Cruise hits theaters on July 24, 2020.
