Disney and Bruno Mars have signed a deal that will have the studio develop a music-driven movie in which the mega-famous pop star will both star and produce.

Bruno Mars has been on the Grammy stage, the Superbowl halftime stage, and will now be heading to the sound stage.

Deadline has announced that the Grammy award-winning pop star has made a deal with Disney to craft what it dubs as a “music-themed theatrical narrative feature” that Bruno Mars will star in and produce.

As the deal has just been announced, no details have been released about the plot. However, Deadline is reporting that Bruno Mars will create and perform nearly all original music for the feature film.

This represents an interesting if unexpected move for Bruno Mars, whose success in the music industry is the foundation of his stardom. The world-famous musician has been nominated 27 times for the the Grammy awards, winning 11 of them. The singer, songwriter, producer, and musician has sold over 200 million singles worldwide, and his tour was touted as the fourth highest-grossing of 2018, netting more than $237 million for 100 shows.

The artist likewise swept the 60th Grammys, winning six trophies, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. He’s performed at the Super Bowl halftime show twice and has had more No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 than any other male artist this decade.

In terms of his acting experience, other than voicing a character in Rio 2, his only other experience in front of the camera as an actor comes from 1992’s Honeymoon in Vegas as a child actor.

However, according to reports from Deadline, the upcoming film collaboration came out of “a long series of discussions between Bruno Mars and [Walt Disney Studios production president] Sean Bailey.”

With a producer and a leading man already locked up, the next item on the list will be to net a writer or writer-director to turn the long-discussed idea into a full-length feature film.
