Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame is about to follow in the footsteps of Aladdin and The Lion King.

According to Variety, Disney is currently in the very early stages of developing a live-action adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The studio has tapped Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly, Flower Drum Song) to write the script. Frozen star Josh Gad (who has firsthand experience working on live-action titles for Disney) is on board to produce.

Disney is also bringing back eight-time Academy Award-winner Alan Menken to pen music for the upcoming live-action adaptation.

Menken, who has worked on such Disney titles as Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, also wrote the original score for the 1996 animated version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

We’re sure hardcore Disney fans will be excited to hear that he’s returning for the live-action adaptation.

Menken will be working alongside Stephen Schwartz to pen music for the forthcoming adaptation.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame marks the latest animated classic to be given the live-action adaptation at Disney.

Other live-action titles coming down the pipeline include Dumbo (March 29, 2019), Aladdin (May 24, 2019), The Lion King (July 19, 2019), and Mulan (March 27, 2020).

There’s currently no word on when we can expect Disney’s live-action rendition of The Hunchback of Notre Dame to hit the big screen.
