Disney+ has found its Ms. Marvel star!

According to Deadline, newcomer Iman Vellani had officially been cast as the titular Ms. Marvel in Disney+ and Marvel Studio’s forthcoming series based on the comic book character.

The forthcoming live action series focuses on Ms. Marvel, a Pakistani American whose real name is Kamala Khan. Vellani will play the 16-year-old teen superhero, who lives in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her abilities include shapeshifting, elasticity, and polymorphism.

Known as Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book, Kamala Khan was created by Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, and first appeared as part of the August 2013 Captain Marvel issue.

Disney+ has been hard at work on production for the upcoming series, having recently announced a slew of directors set to helm various episodes.

Those already on board to serve as directors on the series include Bad Boys for Life vets Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. And Meera Menon.

Meanwhile, Bisha K. Ali will serve as writer on the series.

Wednesday’s (September 30) big casting news for the Ms. Marvel series comes hot on the heels of quite a bit of Marvel Series news at Disney+.

Over the course of the past few weeks, we’ve learned that Samuel L. Jackson has officially signed on to reprise his role as S.H.I.E.L.D head, Nick Fury, in a brand new Marvel Series, the plot of which is currently unknown.

In addition, we also learned that Orphan Black vet Tatiana Maslany has signed on to star in the streamer’s forthcoming She-Hulk series.

There definitely seems to be plenty of Marvel programming coming down the pipeline at Disney+ for fans to look forward to, and we can’t wait to find out more details about all of the shows as they move further and further into production!
