Disney’s live-action adventure Enchanted was a massive hit in 2007, and now the studio has set a director and writer for the film’s sequel.

Shrek 2 and The Smurfs writers J. David Stem and David Weiss have been hired by Disney to write Enchanted 2. The writing duos’ latest live-action family film was Are We There Yet? and Daddy Day Camp, which they wrote for Sony.

Deadline reports Oscar Award-nominated actress Amy Adams was the lead character in Enchanted, which featured her as Giselle, the animated Disney princess who crosses over into the real world. The film also co-starred Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel and Susan Sarandon.

The film received an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination and would go on to pull in over $340 million worldwide at the box office in 2007. Many fans have wanted to see a sequel for quite some time, so we’re excited to hear that Disney is actively moving forward with production.

Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip) will be helming the product, with Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld producing the sequel. A draft for the sequel was actually penned by Jessie Nelson at one point, but it looks as though Disney is going with a new script.

No word yet as to if any of the original actors will be back as their characters for the sequel, but with the success of recent Frozen and Pitch Perfect, we imagine Disney is looking to profit off the sudden surge of quality sing-along/fairy tale films.

Let us know if you’d like to see Amy Adams back in her role of Giselle in Disney’s Enchanted sequel.
