Disney and their animation studio Pixar have announced some major changes on their upcoming release slate.

Disney’s Pixar has moved The Good Dinosaur from May 30, 2014 to November 25, 2015. The move comes in light of a director switch which we reported on last month.

Said Pixar President Ed Catmull in August, “All directors get really deep in their films. Sometimes you just need a different perspective to get the idea out. Sometimes directors … are so deeply embedded in their ideas it actually takes someone else to finish it up. I would go so far as to argue that a lot of live-action films would be better off with that same process.”

Signs of The Good Dinosaur being delayed have been visible for months. Pixar opted not to release a teaser trailer in front of Monsters University as they usually do, suggesting the film was facing some creative issues.

In even worse news, the highly-anticipated Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory has moved from November 25, 2015 to June 17, 2016 to make room for Good Dinosaur. Ellen DeGeneres will return to voice the lead character of Dory as the character searches for her real family.

In better news Disney has shifted the Angelina Jolie-led Maleficent to May 30, 2014. It was previously scheduled for July 2 of the same year.

With today’s announcement, we now know that 2014 will be the first year that Pixar has not released a new movie since 2005. The beloved animation studio recently touted their upcoming plans in an interview in which they admitted that they need to do more original storytelling and rely less on sequels.
