Disney has announced they’re beginning work on a sequel to their recent Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants

A script for the sequel has been ordered and the movie will be executive produced by Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon, who wrote the first film. At this time we don’t know if director Kenny Ortega, who also helmed High School Musical, will be returning.

Said Disney Channel head Gary Marsh in a press release, “by almost every measure – domestically and globally – Descendants has already become one of the biggest entertainment properties of the year, and we’re eager to delve deeper into the unfolding mythology of Auradon and Isle of the Lost. This kind of compelling, innovative storytelling, alongside our animated Descendants: Wicked World shorts and unique transmedia campaign, continues to lay the groundwork for multiple franchise opportunities across virtually every line of business at The Walt Disney Company.”

It sounds like Descendants is great for business! No wonder a sequel is happening.

The first Descendants followed the offspring of the Disney Villains as they were invited by the good guys (led by Beast and Belle’s son Prince Ben) to join the Good Guy academy called Auradon Prep. You can watch a trailer below:

The DCOM is a musical, of course. While we didn’t love the songs, we enjoyed the movie overall.

Disney Channel’s press release claims the film has “reached over 32 million total viewers.”

The network also announced today that a second novel in the Descendants book series is in the works by Melissa de la Cruz. The first book, The Isle of the Lost hit number one on the New York Times Bestseller list and is very well reviewed on Amazon.

Will you return for the ‘Descendants’ sequel?
