Bad news, everyone. Disney Channel’s groundbreaking show, Andi Mack, will be ending after three history-making seasons.

The Disney Channel has been pivotal to many of our childhoods and teenage years, and one of its most groundbreaking shows is ending. Andi Mack will be officially ending its Disney Channel run after 3 seasons.

While many Disney Channel shows hold fun memories for each of us, Andi Mack has done amazing work tackling some really tough and important issues. The show has taken on topics from learning disabilities to coming out, and, as Variety reports, even earning a GLAAD Award and a Television Academy Honor in 2018 for being “television with a conscience.”

Andi Mack will be ending its impressive run with Andi grappling with her choice to leave her friends to attend art school. However, the show’s creators have said they don’t want to end the show on a cliffhanger, so they plan to wrap up the characters’ stories nicely.

Andi Mack co-executive producer Terri Minsky told Variety, “I didn’t want to end with a cliffhanger. I believe people will miss Andi and her friends and her family. To me, the finale is a way for them to tell our audience, ‘We’ll miss you, too, but you don’t have to worry about us: We’ll be fine’.”

It seems to be the perfect conclusion for a show that has been so life-changing for so many of its viewers, especially by featuring the first openly gay main character, Cyrus (Joshua Rush), on the entire Disney Channel. Openly addressing Cyrus’ sexual orientation is a huge step forward, and is key to the kids watching to assure them that their story is important and good.

But in addition to Cyrus’ character arc, the show itself tackles some pretty intense issues on its own. The show’s titular character is a part of a multi-generational Asian-American family, and while Andi is navigating the tumultuous waters of middle school, her life is turned upside down when she learns that the woman she believed to be her older sister is actually her biological mother.

With its honest story-telling, true-to-life, lovable characters, Andi Mack has made a huge impact on viewers. It will be sorely missed. You can catch the series finale on the Disney Channel on Friday, July 26.
