I have no words to describe Glee’s season three finale. Unfortunately even if I did, almost all of them would be negative ones.

Last night on Glee, the seniors finally graduated from McKinley high. Much in glee club fashion, Mr. Schue assigned the class goodbye songs in order to sing out their feelings about leaving high school. What follows throughout the episode is a plethora of slightly-better-than-mediocre songs with the near criminal overlook of “Graduation Song” by Vitamin C.

In passing, we find out that Mercedes is moving to Hollywood to be a back-up singer and that Mike has gotten a scholarship to Joffrey in Chicago (Joffrey is a dance school in case you had no idea what it was like I did). Clearly that was thrown together at the last second by the Glee writers, but who cares, they’re only secondary characters!

At the Hummel-Hudson residence, Finn talks to his mother about his father’s dishonorable discharge from the Army for drug use. Finn wants to do research and find out the truth because he believes that his father was not who the Army made him out to be. Um, seriously Glee? When was the last time you mentioned this? Twelve episodes ago? Most people have no idea what you’re talking about. And if it really meant that much to him, WHY DID HE NEVER MENTION IT? It’s not like Finn/Rachel get 60% of the overall screen time on the show. That’s approximately 324 minutes where he could have mentioned it in passing, just to keep the thought in the viewers’ minds. But no, once again the audience is blindsided with outdated plot lines that were dropped in order to accommodate big name guest stars or scenes of Finn and Rachel making out.

I had high hopes for the season finale. I hoped that they would somehow write Quinn Fabray out forever. But instead they rehashed old news by having her suddenly care about Puck and whether or not he graduates. Now all of the sudden, after she’s been getting all cozy with Joe Hart, she’s making out with Puck and magically he passes his test. She must have sent brain cells into his head via her mouth.

The McKinley High School graduating class consisted of about fifty kids who were all totally okay with the glee club making entrances like they were guests on Ellen when they were called to get their diplomas. By the time everyone had gotten theirs, the class looked like a gospel choir on stage dancing to Finn’s rendition of “Glory Days” by Bruce Springsteen.

Despite the fact that almost all colleges notify students of their acceptances by April (at the latest) Rachel, Kurt and Finn receive their letters AFTER graduation. Finn and Kurt are rejected from their respective schools, but Rachel is accepted to NYADA. Rachel decides to defer her acceptance (stupidest idea ever considering that last week she was borderline desperate for Carmen Tibadeaux to come see her sing in Chicago) and wait until Finn and Kurt can apply next year.

However, on the way to their wedding, Finn takes Rachel to the train station instead. He tells her that she is to get on the train and meet her dads in New York to look at NYADA dorms. He says that she needs to go and be the star that she is while he goes off and joins the army. She cries a lot, and its not a pretty cry, it’s like when small children cry because their older sibling pinched them and you want to smack them in the face for being such a wuss. The rest of the glee club is there to see her off (wait, they all knew Finn was going to break off their engagement? They are literally the worst friends ever) and she sings her way to New York and the season ends.

As for season four, I honestly have no expectations at all. I can’t see how they can actually make anything good out of what they’ve left off with, and after the horribly awful year they’ve had, I can only see it going down from here. In my opinion, they should have ended the show last night and altered the ending in order to tie up all the loose ends and close out storylines. However, that is not the case.
